All About the CUET Syllabus

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a nationwide level of entrance examination for prospective students who desire to get admission into bachelor's level of study at central and participating universities in India. The broad test aims to assess all of the noncognitive factors that indicate potential general cognitive ability—knowledge and current affairs, numerical, reasoning, and analytical abilities. This is followed by questions of logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and general awareness. CUET Eligibility Criteria

For appearing in CUET, the students must have passed their Class XII or an equivalent board examination from any of the recognized boards. Some institutions may have a minimum eligibility criterion of 50% for general category candidates and 45% for reserved categories, while others may have different cutoffs based on the program.


Students who have taken the Class 12 board exam of the current academic session also have the right to apply for CUET. They, however, need to meet the university-specific qualification criteria in order to be enrolled.


  1. Age Limit


There is no upper age limit to apply for CUET. Candidates of any age may sit down the exam, provided they have hold their final Class 12 certificate. However, specific universities may impose additional age restrictions for certain courses, so aspirants should check the eligibility requirements of their preferred institutions before applying.


  1. Subject-Specific Eligibility


There are subject requirements for different undergraduate courses at different universities. For example, a candidate applying for a B.Sc. in Physics must have studied Physics and Mathematics in Class 12. Similarly, an applicant for B.A. (Hons.) In Political Science, it may be necessary to take Political Science as part of their Class 12 curriculum. Applicants are requested to give serious thought to the area of eligibility criteria of the university of their choice, at the time of choosing the subject for CUET.


  1. Reservation Criteria


The CUET eligibility criteria include reservation as per government norms. Specific reservation benefits are offered to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates.
